What muscles are called antagonists? How do they work when bending and unbending and holding a load?

Muscles of the opposite action are called antagonists. When one contracts, the other relaxes and vice versa. For example, biceps (flexion) and triceps (extension). When holding a weight or a dumbbell in a horizontally extended arm, a simultaneous contraction of the flexor muscles and extensors of the joint is observed.
