Different peoples lived in Mesopotamia. Semites lived in the north. In the south, the first tribes appeared, the linguistic affiliation of which scientists cannot establish. In the V – IV millennium BC. the Sumerians, also a people of unknown origin, came to southern Mesopotamia. They built cities, created the most ancient writing – cuneiform. The Sumerians are also considered the inventors of the wheel.
