What reforms in the English church did Henry VIII carry out, and which did not, and why? Which church – Catholic or Lutheran – was the English church more like in 1540?

Henry VIII wanted to maintain the strict centralism of the Catholics in the English Church, but to replace the pope with a king. Therefore, he dispersed the monasteries (they could become centers of independent church propaganda), took their lands into the treasury and sold them at an auction in order to tie the English nobility and the rich to his reform. Luther’s thesis that every believer can communicate with God, bypassing a priest, Henry VIII rejected as disadvantageous for the king. As a result, the Church of England retained most of its Catholic traditions.
