The energy released as a result of biological oxidation of organic substances goes to the synthesis of ATP molecules, and then is used as needed. The decomposition and oxidation products of organic substances – simpler organic and inorganic compounds (water, carbon dioxide, urea, etc.) – are removed from the cell, and then from the body.
