What role do edificatory species play in the life of a biocenosis?

Dominants that participate in the formation of the environment for the entire community (environment-forming species) are called species-edificators. Removing an edificating species can change the environment so much that this biotope is unsuitable for species that previously existed there. New species will be introduced into it, and this will lead to a change in the biocenosis.
