| In crop production, tropical agriculture predominates. Livestock is developed on very few islands because there is not enough space for it. But fishing, fishing for seafood is the basis of activities for many residents of the islands. There is no serious manufacturing industry on the islands, although phosphorites, non-ferrous metal ores, and coal are mined on some of them. Australia produces a large number of minerals (diamonds, iron ores, gold, coal, uranium, bauxite, nickel, copper ores), and a powerful manufacturing industry is developed (metallurgy, mechanical engineering, and chemical). The specialization of agriculture is sheep husbandry, as well as the cultivation of grain crops.
