| Pope Alexander VI (Rodrigo Borja) proposed to peacefully divide all overseas lands between the most active Catholic powers – Spain and Portugal. According to this project, Spain received all the land to the west of the meridian, and Portugal – to the east of this line.As a result, each power received much more territory than it could develop.
