Autochemotrophs – energy is obtained during the oxidation of inorganic substances (chemosynthesis). For instance,
* sulfur bacteria oxidize hydrogen sulfide to sulfur,
* iron bacteria oxidize ferrous iron to ferric,
* nitrifying bacteria oxidize ammonia to nitric acid.
