| 1) Distance from the equator to the Arctic Circle = 66.5o
Distance from the North Pole to the North Tropic = 90o – 23.5o = 66.5o
Therefore, the distance in degrees will be the same.
2) The earth is flattened at the poles. Therefore, the length of the arc 1o of the meridian increases from the equator to the poles. Consequently, the distance in kilometers from the North Pole to the North Tropic will be greater than the distance from the equator to the Arctic Circle.
Answer: the distance in degrees will be the same, but the distance in kilometers from the North Pole to the North Tropic will be greater.
