Which of the two occupations provided better food for people-farming or gathering? ranching or hunting?

The transition from the appropriating to the producing economy was an important milestone in the evolution of man. By farming and herding people could provide themselves with food much more effectively than by gathering and hunting. Of course, this did not mean that after taking up farming and cattle breeding, people stopped going to the forest for berries or hunting, but people became less dependent on the mercies of nature, acquiring another dependence — on their own labor.
