Which planets are “internal” (lower) and which are “external” (upper)? Why are they called that?

| The inner planets are Mercury and Venus. The outer planets are Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Inner (lower) planets are planets whose orbits are located inside (ie closer to the Sun – “below”) the Earth’s orbit. External – planets located further from the Earth from the Sun.
