Why are flowering plants considered a more highly organized group than gymnosperms?

Angiosperms, like gymnosperms, reproduce with the help of seeds, but their seeds are protected by the pericarp, which contributes to their better conservation and distribution. And the appearance of a flower – an organ of seed propagation and double fertilization (ensures the development of the embryo with nutrients from the endosperm), puts this department of plants in the position of the most highly organized representatives of the plant kingdom.
