Why are most of the plants in the Gymnosperms department called evergreens?

| 1) plants from the Gymnosperms department are called evergreens due to the lack of their usual autumn leaf fall;
2) the modified needle-like leaves of gymnosperms fall off, but not all at once, for example, in spruce needles live 5-7 years, and in pine – 2-3 years.
