Why did Calvin, while reigning supreme in Geneva, pay such great attention to the resistance of the community of believers to the tyrant?

Noting. The divine origin of power, Calvin emphasized that rulers have responsibilities to society. If the ruler does not allow true believers to fulfill their Christian duty, then he becomes a tyrant, and the community (but not individuals) has the right to resist him. In extreme cases, the community can call for open disobedience to the point of overthrowing the tyrant. Calvin’s followers developed this idea, thereby justifying even killing a tyrant.
