Why did Portugal start ocean voyages earlier than Spain?

At the end of the XIV century, the Portuguese noble warriors, repelling the onslaught of Castile, found themselves without “work”. After that, the rulers of Portugal had to “occupy” their warriors with overseas campaigns. Spain followed this path after 1492, when Granada was conquered.
