Why did the biography of Genghis Khan come down to us only in Chinese translation?

The biography of Genghis Khan was written in 1240 very frankly – only for his descendants and confidants. It existed in few copies in the court libraries. Only a Chinese copy from the library of Khubilai Khan (the grandson of Genghis Khan, the Chinese emperor – the founder of the Yuan dynasty) has survived.
