Why did the emergence of monopolies provoke protests in the US?

Giant corporations established control over entire branches of the Monopoly, limited freedom of competition, ravaged small firms, agreed to keep workers in wages, dictated prices to customers. The Anti-Trust Law of 1890, was poorly applied in practice. All this caused protests.
Remember: The process of learning a person lasts a lifetime. The value of the same knowledge for different people may be different, it is determined by their individual characteristics and needs. Therefore, knowledge is always needed at any age and position.
