Why did the Latin American peoples, quite close-knit during the years of the anti-colonial struggle, then begin to be at enmity, and often fight with each other?
Because there are very serious disagreements. Many were dissatisfied with the fact that after gaining independence the dominant position went to the Creole nobility. Also, conflicts often arose over the form of government in young countries. The majority of the population supported, of course, the republicans, but there were many supporters of the monarchy. The young states of Latin America were at enmity with each other, stronger territories wanted to subjugate weaker territories. But at the same time, there was still a tendency to stand out, to create an independent state.
