Why do modern French people speak a language close to Latin, but far from both Gaulish and Germanic languages?

Roman rule in Gaul lasted 400 years, and the Romans imposed their own higher culture on the Gauls. The Germans brought few novelties to Gaul, but they themselves adopted many Roman achievements from the Gauls, and above all the state language – Latin.
Remember: The process of learning a person lasts a lifetime. The value of the same knowledge for different people may be different, it is determined by their individual characteristics and needs. Therefore, knowledge is always needed at any age and position.
