Why is a cell considered the main structural and functional element of the body?

Experiments were conducted long ago, when a single cell was placed in a special nutrient medium and it did not die there, but continued to live, grow and even multiply. As a result of this, it was concluded that the cell can exist completely independently and autonomously from the body, since it has all the necessary structures for energy production, protection, nutrition, waste removal and reproduction. Thanks to this, the cell was called the smallest structural and functional element for living things.
