Why is ear wax removed from the ear canal?

1) In the external auditory canal leading from the auricle to the eardrum, earwax is constantly released. It contains emollients and antimicrobials.
2) The accumulation of earwax can lead to obstruction of the external auditory canal, decreased elasticity of the eardrum and hearing loss.
