Why is it believed that the process of absorption of a quantum of electromagnetic radiation by an atom is the opposite process to its radiation?
An atom absorbing a quantum of electromagnetic radiation passes from a stationary state with a lower energy to a stationary state with a higher energy. In this case, the atom absorbs radiation of the same frequency as in the transition from stationary states with higher energy to stationary states with lower energy.
