Why is the pancreatic hormone preparation, insulin, administered intravenously, intramuscularly or subcutaneously, and the adrenal cortex hormone preparations, the so-called corticoids: hydrocortisone, cortisone, corticosterone, are taken as anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic drugs in the form of tablets?

1. Insulin is a protein and, like all proteins, is influenced by digestive enzymes in the stomach and small intestine. It should enter the bloodstream not in the form of individual amino acids, but as a whole, while maintaining its hormonal activity. Therefore, it is administered intravenously, intramuscularly or subcutaneously.
2. Hormones of the adrenal cortex are classified as lipids – fats. Many lipids are absorbed into the lymphatic capillaries of the intestinal villi and are transferred by the lymph flow into the blood as a whole; they also easily pass through cell and intracellular membranes.
