Why is the surface temperature of Venus so high?
November 14, 2020 | Education
| The high temperature of Venus is due to the greenhouse effect: the atmosphere of Venus lets in the sun’s rays, which heats its surface. The heated surface emits infrared radiation that is trapped by carbon dioxide and water vapor in Venus’s atmosphere. In addition, this radiation delays the cover of Venus. As a result of these factors, thermal equilibrium is established at a higher temperature.
