Why is Wien’s law of displacement rarely used to determine the color temperatures of cold and very hot stars?

To determine the surface temperature of cold and hot stars using Wien’s law, spectrophotometric observations are required outside the optical range – in the infrared and ultraviolet regions of the spectrum.
