Why should the light rays coming from an object be focused on the retina?

Inner sheath – the retina contains a layer of optic cells and several layers of nerve cells. It is here that the transformation of light energy that has entered the eye from an object into a nerve impulse takes place. It is transmitted to the brain, where the visual image is formed.
