Why the word “Saxons” in the 8th-10th centuries called the inhabitants of both England and Germany?

The Saxons are one of the largest Germanic tribes. Part of it moved to the island of Britain in the 5th century (together with its congeners – Angles), others remained on the mainland – in Germany; the Duchy of Saxony was formed there.
