Compare the thermal conductivity of solids, liquids and gases

Metals have the highest thermal conductivity, and highly discharged gases have the lowest. This is due to the peculiarities of their structure. Gas molecules are located at distances greater than molecules of solids, and collide much less often. Therefore, the transfer of energy from one molecule to another in gases is not as intense as in solids. The thermal conductivity of a liquid occupies an intermediate position between the thermal conductivity of gases and solids.
