Their breeding took place over 4500 years, and it continues to this day. The selection of chickens went in the direction of creating breeds of meat direction, chickens with high egg production, ornamental chickens. All modern breeds of domestic geese originate from the wild gray goose, and all breeds of domestic ducks originate from the mallard duck. Numerous breeds of domestic pigeons have evolved from the wild rock pigeon that still lives in the mountainous regions of the Mediterranean.
