| On the first day of the New Year, Mars was covered by the Moon, which began at midnight and ended simultaneously with the setting of the Moon. Will Mars confrontation in the beginning of the year?
The covering of Mars by the Moon usually lasts about one hour (maximum – just under two hours). If the setting of the Moon and Mars occurs an hour or two after midnight, then Mars has recently passed the point of opposition with the Sun and is visible throughout the first half of the night and at the very beginning of its second half. The time interval between two subsequent confrontations exceeds two years, so there will be no Mars opposition in the beginning year.
