There is a fairly simple and plausible explanation for this phenomenon. Lumps of rocks played the role of a plow. Arable land was set in motion by the impact of a giant meteorite. The boulders remained in place during a push by inertia, and the satellite itself shifted from under them. Lumps and plowed furrows along its surface.
