| Porphyra, also known as red sea salad, is a representative of red algae. Despite the fact that porphyry lives in the depths of the sea, it is characterized by the process of photosynthesis. What spectrum of light does it need for photosynthesis? How does this process take place in porphyry?
1) the process of photosynthesis requires rays of both the red and blue spectrum;
2) since water absorbs rays of the red-orange spectrum, porphyry uses blue for photosynthesis, which is absorbed by the pigments of its cells.
