Starfish are voracious predators, feeding mainly on oysters and other edible molluscs. Usually fishermen caught in the nets of starfish cut into pieces and threw overboard. However, when zoologists learned about one feature of the starfish, the fishermen stopped chopping the starfish into pieces. Why?

1) starfish have well-developed regeneration (restoration of lost body parts);
2) therefore, the fishermen, cutting their bodies into pieces, contributed to the asexual reproduction of starfish.
