What determines the water temperature in the ocean?

The water temperature in the ocean depends on the proximity to the equator. The closer to the equator, the higher the temperature, the farther from the equator – the lower the temperature. Therefore, the warmest waters are near the equator, and the coldest at the poles.
Ocean currents also affect water temperature. Warm currents make warmer cold seas, and cold lower the overall temperature of warm seas.
The climate of the territories near the ocean also affects the temperature of the water.
