What features of the structure of the limbs ensure the rapid movement of equid-hoofed animals?

Animals of the order Equid-hoofed animals are inhabitants of open spaces (steppe, savanna). As a rule, these are large, tall animals with a high running speed, which allows them to spot a predator in time and escape from it. Their legs are long, slender, with well-developed muscles. The third toe is developed in the foot, the rest are reduced. The toe is widened, covered with a strong horny covering (hoof). The entire weight of the animal’s body falls on these extended phalanges of the third toe (phalango-walking). Due to this structure of the skeleton of the legs, as well as their powerful musculature, the running speed of the animals of this order is high.
