What is the biological significance of the thymus gland (thymus)?

| 1) lymphocytes are formed and differentiated in the thymus: B- and T-lymphocytes, which synthesize antibodies and antitoxins;
2) B-lymphocytes produce antibodies;
3) T-lymphocytes are divided into helpers (stimulate immune responses), suppressors (block excessive reactions of B-lymphocytes), killers (kill tumor cells).
