| 1) The epidermis is a multilayered keratinizing epithelium that makes up the upper part of the skin, protects the body from mechanical and chemical factors. Peeling of horn cells helps cleanse the skin of dirt.
2) Glands: sebaceous – the secret of the sebaceous glands (sebum) lubricates the epidermis and hair, making them non-wettable by water; sweat – produce sweat, which evaporates takes heat from the body and lowers its temperature.
3) Subcutaneous fat also protects against heat loss and water from the outside.
