| Birds in which chicks hatch from eggs covered with fluff, with open eyes, are able to move independently and follow adult birds, are called brood birds. The parents’ role is to protect the brood, keep the chicks warm, and help find food.
Birds of another group, in which chicks emerge from the egg helpless, blind, naked or poorly pubescent, in need of heating, protection and long-term feeding, are called chicks or nesting birds.
