Which stars are becoming New?

Stars can become new – white dwarfs that are part of a close binary system. Hydrogen flows from the main star to the surface of the white dwarf. When there is a lot of it (0.001 solar masses), a thermonuclear explosion begins. From Earth, the explosion is registered as a burst of a New Star.
