Why are craters on Mercury on average smaller in diameter than craters on the Moon?

The flight range of the ejected matter in an explosion on Mercury is shorter than on the Moon, since the acceleration of gravity on this planet is 2 times greater. Another reason may be the different size distribution of meteoric bodies in the vicinity of these two cosmic bodies.
