Large pieces of sulfur are drowned in water by gravity, and the powder floats up, because it is lightweight and does not wet with water.
Like sulfur, many natural sulfur compounds are not wetted by water when ground. they float on the surface of the water. and the impurities settle. This property is used by the day of separation of ores from waste rock. This method of ore beneficiation is called flotation.
