Why do the strongest lines in the solar spectrum belong to ionized calcium, although there is much less of it on the sun than hydrogen?

Hydrogen lines in the optical range of the spectrum are created by excited atoms, which are few on the Sun. There are significantly more of them in stars of spectral types A and F.
