Why does the Earth change the direction of its speed when moving around the Sun?

The Earth around the Sun moves along an elliptical trajectory, and the speed at any point of the trajectory is always directed tangentially to this point of the trajectory. When the Earth moves from one point to another, the direction of the tangent changes, which means that the direction of speed also changes.
