Why is orientation on Earth possible with a compass? Is it accurate?

The Earth has a magnetic field in which the magnetic needle is oriented. The magnetic needle is located along the lines of force of the Earth’s magnetic field. Moreover, the north magnetic pole of the arrow is directed towards the south magnetic pole of the Earth and vice versa. Earth’s magnetic poles do not align with geographic poles.
